LOSA/TEM Overview
The Aviation Consulting
Group provides LOSA/TEM training and consulting for air service providers and
maintenance facilities worldwide. Our LOSA/TEM courses are designed for large
and small airlines, charter, corporate and business aviation operators, and line
maintenance facilities that would like to implement their own LOSA/TEM programs.
In addition to LOSA principles and techniques the courses also present an
in-depth look at Threat and Error Management. Because TEM is the basis of LOSA,
a solid understanding of TEM is a prerequisite for valid LOSA observations.

LOSA/TEM
for Flight Operations

According to the FAA, a
LOSA is "a formal process that requires expert and highly trained observers to
ride the jumpseat during regularly scheduled flights to collect safety-related
data on environmental conditions, operational complexity, and flightcrew
performance. Confidential data collection and non-jeopardy assurance for pilots
are fundamental to the process." These data provide a peek into the real-time
operating environment and are complementary to other proactive safety data
collection programs such as FOQA and ASAP. All of these programs will be tied
into your eventual, or current, functional
Safety
Management System (SMS).
*
TACG can conduct LOSA observation
rides to augment your own observers.
* We can also train your observers
during LOFT simulator training events with no impact on your
training that is already being conducted!
*Although not required by
regulation, a LOSA program is looked at very favorably by all regulating
authorities and insurance companies. LOSA is a proactive way to prevent
accidents from occurring in the first place!

LOSA/TEM for
Maintenance

A maintenance LOSA is
similar to a flight operations LOSA with the exception that the observations are
conducted in the maintenance environment. Expert and highly trained observers
take a real-time peek into normal, everyday maintenance operations to collect
safety-related data on procedures, processes, environmental conditions, and
human factors. Confidential data collection and non-jeopardy assurance for
maintenance technicians are fundamental to the process. These data provide a
peek into the real-time operating environment and are complementary to other
proactive safety data collection programs such as MOQA, ASAP and MEDA . All of these
programs will be tied into your eventual, or current, functional
Safety
Management System (SMS).
