What Is CRM?

CRM is the effective utilization of all resources including crew members, aircraft systems, supporting facilities and persons to achieve safe and efficient operations. The objective of CRM is to enhance communication, interaction, human factors and management skills of the crew members concerned. Emphasis is also on the non-technical aspects of crew performance (EASA definition).

What Is Contemporary CRM?

Contemporary CRM integrates technical skill development with communications and crew coordination training and operational risk management by applying threat and error management (TEM) concepts (Transport Canada definition. TC Advisory Circular AC 700-042).

Contemporary CRM is the latest iteration of CRM, whereas more emphasis is now being placed on threat and error management (TEM). Additionally, Contemporary CRM makes practical use of global, as well as the Operator's own, safety data. To that end, Evidence-Based Training (EBT) is a significant part of Contemporary CRM course development and training. CRM is always evolving, and as the figure below shows (courtesy Transport Canada), CRM is currently in its 6th Generation, depicting the emphasis on TEM.

Crew Resource Management Instructor CRMI (Train-The-Trainer)

(5 days)

 

Courses available for fixed wing and helicopter operators.

This course meets and exceeds the requirements of Regulators worldwide (including FAA, Transport Canada, and EASA). We guarantee it!

Note: We have other courses available specifically for other positions such as ground personnel and aircraft maintenance engineers.

This CRM Instructor (Train-The-Trainer) course is appropriate for company personnel who would like to learn how to develop and teach CRM courses. This is a 5-day intensive course that, upon successful completion, will certify the candidate as a company CRM trainer, and be approvable as such by your CAA.

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, the ideal candidate should:

  • Have adequate knowledge of CRM
  • Have adequate knowledge of Human Performance and Limitations
  • Have completed CRM training
  • Have experience as an instructor/facilitator in some capacity
  • Have a pleasant demeanor and be respected by company colleagues

This CRM Initial course is appropriate for flight crewmembers who have not had any previous CRM training, or have not had a CRM course for an extended period of time. We encourage an integrated class (i.e., pilots, flight attendants, dispatchers, flight-followers, non-flying management, and other positions, as/if applicable). There are no prerequisites for this course.

Crew Resource Management Recurrent

This CRM Recurrent course is appropriate for flight crewmembers who have had Initial (or previous Recurrent) CRM training. We encourage an integrated class (i.e., pilots, flight attendants, dispatchers, flight-followers, non-flying management, and other positions, as/if applicable). There are no prerequisites for this course.

Crew Resource Management Evaluator

(2 days)

 

This course meets and exceeds the requirements of Regulators worldwide (including FAA, Transport Canada, and EASA). We guarantee it!

This CRM Evaluator course is appropriate for company personnel who are, or will be, responsible for evaluating/assessing CRM within their flight operation. Depending on your type of operation, you may have a requirement for CRM assessments, both in the simulator and in line operations. By attending this course, the candidate will obtain the necessary skills for conducting non-technical (NOTECHS) CRM grading and assessments in simulator and line operations.

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, the ideal candidate should:

  • Have adequate knowledge of CRM
  • Have adequate knowledge of Human Performance and Limitations
  • Have completed CRM training
  • Have completed Human Factors training

This Threat and Error Management (TEM) course is appropriate for company personnel who are responsible for implementing and/or teaching TEM within their flight operation. This TEM course will give the program developer and/or instructors an in-depth knowledge of what TEM is, how it's applied, and how it benefits your flight operation by proactively addressing the precursors to accidents and incidents by the effective management of threats and errors.

There are no prerequisites for this course; however, the ideal candidate should:
