Crew Resource Management (CRM) Training

The Aviation Consulting Group (TACG) is a globally recognized, leading provider of aviation Crew Resource Management (CRM) training. TACG has been providing CRM training to aviation operators on a worldwide basis since 2000. Our CRM courses are cost-effective, flexible, and practical (we minimize theory and maximize real-word experiences, examples, and case studies). TACG offers CRM courses for airlines, charter, business aviation, and helicopter operators. TACG's CRM courses meet and exceed the requirements of Regulators worldwide (including FAA, Transport Canada, and EASA).

What Is CRM?

CRM is the effective utilization of all resources including crew members, aircraft systems, supporting facilities and persons to achieve safe and efficient operations. The objective of CRM is to enhance communication, interaction, human factors and management skills of the crew members concerned. Emphasis is also on the non-technical aspects of crew performance (EASA definition).

What Is Contemporary CRM?

Contemporary CRM integrates technical skill development with communications and crew coordination training and operational risk management by applying threat and error management (TEM) concepts (Transport Canada definition. TC Advisory Circular AC 700-042 )

Contemporary CRM is the latest iteration of CRM, whereas more emphasis is now being placed on threat and error management (TEM). Additionally, Contemporary CRM makes practical use of global, as well as the Operator's own, safety data. To that end, Evidence-Based Training (EBT) is a significant part of Contemporary CRM course development and training. CRM is always evolving, and as the figure below shows (courtesy Transport Canada), CRM is currently in its 6th Generation, depicting the emphasis on TEM.

CRM Course Development

TACG fully understands that many operators just don't have the time, resources, or expertise to develop an effective (and Regulator-approvable) CRM course. We've got you covered! We can develop and customize a CRM course, specific to your operation, to meet your needs and requirements. All courses are developed based on current and relevant CRM issues, using the latest version of CRM, called Contemporary CRM. With Contemporary CRM, a significant emphasis is placed on threat and error management (TEM). Evidence-Based Training (EBT) also plays a huge role by focusing on external and internal data to address significant safety threats and their management.

TACG's custom-developed CRM courses are designed to keep attendees engaged, and not bore them with endless theory and/or aviation "psychobabble." While some classic accidents are inevitably discussed, things have changed quite a bit in the last few decades, especially pertaining to technology. Therefore, we focus on the current, practical issues that affect flightcrews today.

Our highly experienced staff can develop customized CRM courses for-

  • Airlines (large and small, domestic and international)
  • Charter Operators
  • Business Aviation Operators
  • Helicopter Operators (including offshore, aerial tours, pax transport, and HEMS)

Services include-

  • Develop customized CRM course(s) (Initial, Recurrent, Re-qualification, and more)

TACG provides unbiased assessments of CRM programs for all types of aviation operators on a worldwide basis. Our assessments include a thorough analysis of your current CRM program(s), a report of our findings, and recommendations for improvements.

Based on our results, TACG can also provide additional consulting and/or course development to help your aviation organization have the most effective CRM courses possible. Our assessments are conducted as a combination of both onsite and offsite work.

Our capabilities and methods include the following:

  • Onsite work (includes, but not limited to, observations, interviews, and effectiveness of delivery methodologies)
  • Offsite work (includes, but not limited to, a review of applicable CRM manuals, SOPs, training syllabus, and software)
  • Assessments take into consideration the specific State CAA CRM requirements as well as cultural differences
  • Assessments are confidential and are not shared with the Regulator

CRM Courses

Live Training Is More Effective Than CBT "Click Learning"

  • When it comes to CRM training...a soft skills subject...the most effective delivery method is face-to-face with a live facilitator.
  • Our highly experienced facilitators present timely, research-based topics, guide discussions, and interject lots of anecdote (as well as some humor).
  • A face-to-face class also allows greater interaction between attendees through personal experiences, large/small group exercises, activities, and case studies.
  • A live facilitator can answer student questions in real time.
